The Atmosphere on Makani Catamaran – Makani Catamaran is a 65-foot luxury catamaran with a spacious deck, impressive onboard amenities, and a friendly and professional crew. You will be welcomed aboard by the captain and crew, who will ensure that you have an enjoyable sail. The catamaran has comfortable seating arrangements, adequate shade, and ample deck space to accommodate a large group of people. The atmosphere onboard is calm, relaxed, and perfect for soaking up the sun and sea breeze. Our max capacity is 80 people. Our normal daily sails’ max is set at 50 people, which gives more open space for everyone

The Sailing Experience – Sailing on Makani Catamaran is an adventure in itself. The catamaran sails along the coastline of Waikiki and beyond, providing spectacular views of Diamond Head, Oahu’s longest reef, Honolulu skyline, and the beautiful waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have the opportunity to feel the sensation of being propelled by the wind as you cruise on the catamaran. Whether you’re an experienced sailor or a first-time sailor, the captain and crew will let you steer the boat and teach you about sailing.

As we sail towards Diamond Head, we brave the wind and waves. The journey may be a bit bumpy at times, depending on the conditions. You might even feel the exhilarating splashes from the bows and net area, which thrill seekers absolutely adore. Sailing back towards the west side, the ride is very smooth as we ride the wave with tail wind.

There is bench seating in the back of the boat, by the bar on the side and inside the cabin. Some people like to stand at the very ends of the hull and get a “Titanic” photo opp. Some people like to hang out on the nets and get splashed, kids especially love this. Still some people like to hang with the captain and crew.

Families who join me on deck love that everyone, young and young at heart seems to find a spot to see everything they want to see: Diamond Head, the Waikiki shoreline and don’t forget: fireworks! You can walk around the edges and explore my entire deck.

Below The Deck –  If you tend to get seasick, crew will likely recommend staying above deck. As for the interior, it’s designed with utmost comfort in mind. We have ample seating for relaxation. Not all catamarans in Honolulu offer the same interior space as Makani. It’s a wonderful option if you want a break from the sun and coincidentally, it’s where the bar is located. I bet you’ll find yourself in the interior at some point. We do not provide any food on board. However, there is a fantastic lunch wagon called Bento Box conveniently located right next to our check-in booth. Feel free to bring your own food on board and enjoy a delightful picnic on the water.. Below deck is designed for ultimate comfort, serving as a gathering place away from the elements where you can enjoy your sail in style.

Are There Any Restrooms Available? – Yes, there are two clean restrooms on Makani. Please be aware that you will need to descend a flight of stairs to access them.

Is The Boat Wheelchair Accessible? – Yes, it is possible to board the boat with a travel type wheelchair. Our crew will be available to assist you, but please ensure that you have someone with you to help you navigate the few steps onto the boat. Good thing is that you do not have to go through the water to get on Makani.

Will I Get Sea Sick? – A catamaran has double hull. This dual hull that affords me the space to incorporate nets at the front of the bow. Any individual who steps aboard the decks yearns to recline on the net or sit on the bean bags by the net, if only for a few moments, to witness the water rushing beneath and feel the briskness of the breeze against their cheeks.

While many have praised the double hull as a beautiful physical attribute, it also bestows a unique advantage upon those on deck: stability and speed. We are capable of attaining greater speed while maintaining minimal rocking. Makani is designed to provide a smooth sailing experience and, with the expertise of our capable crew, we effortlessly cut through the waves with little disruption. Most voyages are serene, imbued with a sense of tranquility and aloha.

Despite this stability, a few individuals may experience motion sickness. we always advise those who are prone to such discomfort to consult their doctor before embarking on a journey to Oahu, as they can provide invaluable tips for preventing seasickness. Once on deck, our crew will make every effort to mitigate any seasickness and assist those who may require aid.

The Drinks – The onboard bar has a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, cocktails, and soft drinks. Our signature drink, High Tide is a must to try. It is so yummy that we often get asked for a recipe.
